No more tax on period pants: what you need to know
January 2024 marks the first month that period pants are officially tax-free in the UK. Right up until this month, period pants have been subject to a 20% 'luxury tax' while items like Jaffa Cakes and crocodile meat have been classed as tax free 'essentials' – we know, we can't believe it either.
Period pants were not covered in the 2021 law change in which the “tampon tax” on period products was removed. This is because they were classed as “garments” and therefore considered exempt. We're massive fans of period pants here at Unfabled, and we're delighted that the scrapping of the period pants tax will now make them more affordable for our community.
In response to the scrapping of the period pants tax, you'll see we've slashed the prices on all period pants at Unfabled. With period pants now 20% cheaper, there's never been a better time to make the switch to more sustainable menstrual care.
